The Rice family has been involved planning, design and environmental services for private, public and government resource management, building and infrastructure projects for nearly 85 years. The establishment of our company is a logical extension of the work that we enjoy. We use all of our experience to the benefit of our clients’ projects. The timeline below shows the building blocks of our foundation.

Our Foundation

2020 - Bill establishes Rice LLC to provide high-quality planning, design and environmental services for local, state and federal agencies, municipalities, and private industry.

2014 - Bill leads North Carolina planning and environmental operations for an Eastern US transportation engineering and public infrastructure firm.

2007 - Bill leads North Carolina planning and environmental operations for an international strategic consulting, planning, engineering, energy, and community planning firm.

2005 - Bill manages a worldwide team of planners and scientists as International Director of Planning and Environmental services, focusing on transportation, rail, banking, energy and petroleum industries.

2004 - Bill expands planning and environmental operations for land development, communications, energy and transportation projects for an Eastern US geoenvironmental consulting firm.

1999 - Bill provides specific, master and comprehensive planning, and state and federal environmental impacts analysis for projects throughout the Western US, and becomes a college professor of geoenvironmental science.

1996 - Bill provides ASTM Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessment, remedial action design, and remediation system construction on petroleum, energy, and land development projects throughout the Western US.

1993 - Bill’s son, Bill establishes his career in planning, design and environmental for municipal and university projects in the Western US.

1983 - Bill plans and manages the development and redevelopment of industrial projects and major aircraft research and development facilities in the Western US.

1969 - WP’s son, Bill Rice plans and manages major retail commercial projects throughout the Eastern, Midwestern and Western US.

1966 - WP builds Crestview Grill, a gasoline station, a church building, and plats a residential subdivision in Dora, Alabama, marking his entrance into commercial, institutional and residential development.

1946 - WP establishes the Silver Leaf Coal Company as a way to provide low cost or free coal for heating the homes of less fortunate rural families.

1939 - After 13 years of working in other company’s coal mines, “WP” Rice establishes W. P. Rice Coal Company in Empire, Alabama and competes with larger coal and energy corporations.
